THROUGH THE YEARS SINCE 1990

Parañaque Dental Chapter, Inc. found itself established at the time of growth and development. Initially, dentists of Parañaque were affiliated with Pasay Dental Society. Due to the perseverance of our founding of cers and members(*), the membership increased as well as the programs and projects. On November 16, 1990 a resolution endorsing the Chaptership of Parañaque was formulated. Two days thereafter, it was submitted to the House of Delegates and was unanimously approved. The First general membership meeting and election of officers was held on December 9, 1990 at the Nayong Silang Restaurant.
The history of PDCI can be traced back through the efforts of every president that served and the themes they carried as their guiding principle to keep PDCI on the path of progress. The activities, projects and programs and most especially the active members played a crucial role in the development our organization has reached. Our present status is truly a gift of those that came before. We look forward to the many years to come as PDCI moves steadfastly with good intentions, sincerest attitude and open mindedness.

In 1991-1992, Norma B. Chua, DDM and her team of dedicated of cers and members established the mission, goals and values of what was then called Parañaque Dental Chapter. On its initial year, Dr. Norma Chua was able to lead the chapter in participating in all activities of the mother association. The Chapter was able to garner the award for PDA’s Miss Alay Parada 1992, two first place wins and six consolation prizes in the Healthy Smile Contest, as well as the Grand Prize winner of the Dance Contest during the fellowship night. The Chapter was given a special award for their active involvement and contribution to the Philippine Dental Association. Furthermore, the Chapter was nominated as one of the finalists for the Most Outstanding Chapter and the Most Outstanding Chapter President.

In 1992-1993, Asteria C. Campañero, DDM continued the laborious work of keeping the Chapter growing progressively with the theme “the Dentist and the Comprehensive care of Patients”. Because of their diligence, the Chapter was awarded among the three most Outstanding Chapters of PDA, Chapter president Dr. Campanero and secretary Dr. Pintado in Metro Manila. Other awards that were received included merit for undertaking the Comprehensive Dental Care Program at Parañaque Elementary School, Unit 3, Fourth Estate Subdivision, Sucat as well as the Presidential Award for Distinguished Service was given to Dr. Campañero as Chair of the PDA Elsie Gaches Dental Committee.

In 1993-1994, Belina R. Alcoseba, DDM succeeded in implementing the theme “The Dentist Beyond Dental Care.” During the celebration of the National Dental Health Week Alay Parada, PDCI was awarded the Most Colorful Chapter. The Chapter also received an award for Best in Uniform during the Bowling tournament. More importantly, PDA bestowed the “Bayanihan Award for Outstanding Chapter in Community Health, Volunteer Group” to PDCI. The Chapter was proud to have been the launching area of the World Dental Health Program dubbed as “Sagip Unang Ngipin” undertaken by then DOH Sec. Juan Flavier.

In 1994-1995, Preciosa L. Tanagon, DDM led the PDCI bearing the theme “Professional and Social Consciousness 2000” as the Chapter’s response to the needs of society and profession. It was during this year that the Chapter received the following awards: rst place “Guhit Bulilit”, Most Colorful Chapter during the Alay Parada-National Dental Health week, winner in Healthy Smile and 2nd Runner-Up for Outstanding Chapter in NCR.

In 1995-1996, Marivic T. Salamat, DDM reinforced the goals of PDCI with the theme “Professional and Social Awareness through Education Action” which was intended to uplift the standards of society with regards to dental services and professionals. The Chapter continued to support all of PDA activities such as Adopt-a-Barangay and the National Dental Health Week. The Chapter acquired a portable dental chair, and the other instruments and equipment acquired from the two previous terms were recorded and documented as well.

In 1996-1997, Wilhelmina E. Llariñas, DDM reinforced the goals of PDCI for a “Continuing Commitment Towards Better Oral Health” where the aspirations were for better and comprehensive approach of service, wider scope of courtesy, greater demand on the cooperation of members, and deeper responsibility. For this dental year, the Chapter was able to establish the Community Outreach Program supported by Mayor Joey Marquez, continued the Adopt-a-Barangay project at Masville, Sucat. New equipment were also acquired such as an electric typewriter and a complete set of dental instruments for civic actions derived from the “Pabingo ng mga Dentista sa Parañaque.” The Chapter participated in the motorcade for the National Dental Health Week and won 3rd place in healthy smiles contest. PDCI was awarded 2nd most supportive Chapter by PDA.

In 1997-1998, Myrna S. De Guzman, DDM used the theme “Global Vision-Dental Excellence” to steer the Chapter towards serving the people by maintaining and promoting the best dental health as well as to aim for excellent dental care for more people in the country. The Chapter continued to provide service such as dental health education and community outreach programs. They also conducted the Adopt-a�Barangay project where free dental prostheses were given to the residents.

In 1998-1999, Nestor B. Arce, DDM prepared the Chapter in entering the 21st century with the theme “Excel�lence in the New Millenium”. He strengthened the thrust for community service by working with other agencies such as the Public Health Dentist and BF Health Center for the Adopt-a-Barangay program as well as the Dental Health Education and Community Outreach Programs.

In 1999-2000, Norma R. Ayap, DDM ushered in the excellence in service with the theme “Onward to the New Millenium, Ready to Face the Challanges”. The Chapter immersed in Civic Action and Outreach Programs to serve the Lord through His people by giving sel essly giving time and effort. The Chapter was blessed by Spiritual adviser Rev. Fr. Gerry Mascarinas and the Chapter’s banner was renewed.

In 2000-2001, Nery A. Alonday, DDM emphasized the importance of more research work and free exchange of scientific knowledge carrying the theme “Continuing Education and Service through Active Membership”. During this term, the Chapter conducted Zero Dental Caries Program for public school children in elementary. The Chapter also received the award of Most Organized Chapter during the NDHW Alay Parada.

In 2001-2002, Carlos B. Melo, DDM courageously strived to harmonize the Chapter’s of cers and members to commit to greater heights for Parañaque utilizing the theme “Commitment Towards Excellence in Dental Profession”. The numerous projects and programs such as Operation Pustiso led PDA to recognize the Chapter as 1st Runner-Up for Most Outstanding Chapter in NCR.

In 2002-2003, Grace G. Brozas, DDM facilitated the search for excellence in the Dental Profession in the New Millenium. The Chapter’s theme was “Realization of Continuing Dental Consciousness Today, Tomorrow and the Future”. With the continued community services such as Oplan Linis, Bunot at Pustiso, the Chapter focused on continuing education. The great determination for competitiveness paved the way for PDCI to organize and hold the

First ever International PDC Seminar in Hongkong.

In 2003-2004, Raquel C. Gabriel, DDM displayed the determination to maintain the commitment in continuing to retool the members of PDCI towards excellent quality oral health service while being attuned to the standards of the profession so as to be globally competitive. The Chapter’s theme was “Working Towards Dental Globalization”. There was a great opportunity to intensify the communication with the members through other means of communi�cation which increased the membership by 30% from the previous year. There were 2,780 day care pupils who received services from Oral Health Promotion Program “Bantay Ngipin”. This year earmarked the launching of the First Public Dental Health Awareness Billboard. The Chapter received recognition from PDA as the Outstanding Chapter in Oral Health Promotion.

In 2004-2005, Ruben Hilario, III, DDM pursued excellence while keeping the highest ideals burning passion�ately in its innermost core towards global competitiveness through strengthening of local networks and resources leading to the theme “Internal Strengthening in Fostering Excellence”. The Chapter experienced the First ever National Dental Health Month where the Chapter won the Poster Making Contest and the Healthy Smile Competi�tion. The Chapter successfully partnered with several agencies allowing several twinning with various Chapters to be established.

In 2005-2006, Lilia Pajarillo, DDM maneuvered the Chapter to replicate the various efforts and achievements of our past presidents and officers, as well as provided an avenue to improve skills through healthy exchanges of dental expertise while focusing energy on revitalizing

dental creative marketing and ethical positioning. The theme for the year was “Reintervention Towards a Purpose-Driven Dental Practice”. The First ever team building workshop for PDCI of cers and organizing committee was conducted. Some of the equipment such as Robocop was

refurbished.

In 2006-2007, Fernando M. Fernandez, DDM forti ed the advocacy for a respected eld of profession with forthright determination and tenacious passion for the advancement of the dental institution with the theme “Intensifying Professionalism”. The Chapter was recognized for its dedication to service with the PDA award for second Most Outstanding Chapter and Second Most Outstanding President of NCR and Most Outstanding Report. The Chapter

also placed 2nd place during the NDHM Carton Creation Contest. The flagship project was the Dentistry Henyo where full scholarship was awarded to senior dentistry proper students. The OHP-era Billboard campaign allowed 3 billboards to be posted in 3 sites. This was the year that best efforts gave birth to the Incorporation of PDCI.

In 2007-2008, Geraldine A. Cruz, DDM took the Chapter “A Step Beyond” where the limitless possibility of achieving excellence was in the honor of the dental profession. The Chapter was able to conduct another seminar outside of the country. This time in Bangkok, Thailand. The untiring devotion of the Chapter garnered the title from PDA as the Chapter with the Most outstanding Report, Most Outstanding Chapter in NCR, and Most Outstanding President in NCR.

In 2008-2009, the PDCI continues under the indefatigable leadership of Andrea Dagal-Cualing, DDM. It was the initial year that PDA changed the scal year to calendar year and the Chapter was prepared to face all the challenges and so carries the theme “In nitely Prime”. The Chapter garnered several awards in sports: In the 1st PDA Mixed Volleyball Tournament the Chapter got the 2nd Runner-Up with the best female tosser, Dr. Gina Guiang and Best Male Blocker, Dr. Alex Acosta. In Bowling Tournament, Dr. Angel Dilig got the 1st Runner-Up in Double Male

Division and 2nd Runner-Up in Single Male Division. In PDA’s Centennial Shootfest, Dr. Ruben Hilario III and Dr. Allan Reyes were the Champions of the Standard Division and Production Division respectively. The Chapter held a shoot�fest as fundraising project dubbed as “Dentist Cup, Shoot for a Cause”. In the National Dental Health Month the Chapter also garnered 2nd Runner-Up in the PDA’s 1st streetdancing competition. With all these and other involvement to other PDA activities, PDCI became the Finalist of the PDA’s Most Outstanding Chapter NCR, Dr. Gigi’s hardwork was not overlooked for she was a nalist of the PDA’s Most Outstanding President NCR.

In CY 2010, Giselle S. Yumul, DDM, displayed, exhibited, aspired for greatness with the help of tireless, spirited officers and members. With the theme “Pride, Determination, Care, Integrated”, the Chapter received an accolade from PDA for the special program on Scholarship Grant called “Dentistri Genyo” and Best Program Implementer of the PDA-School based program entitled Healthy Smiles for Healthy Kids (HSHK) for NCR South. She also received a

Presidential Citation Award from the PDA President. One of the highlights during her term was the fundraiser called “South Auto Show.”

In CY 2011, Grace T. Pagtakhan, DDM, with the theme “Extreme Level-Up”, was able to pave the road to success by strengthening membership, forging camaraderie among peers and uplifting professionalism. Dr. Grace started her term with a blast by winning 2nd place during the 102nd PDA Fellowship Night and was awarded best program implementer NCR South for the school based program Happy Smile for Healthy Kids (HSHK). The road to her success was the combination of hardwork and fun as she initiated her fundraising program Dance Marathon

called “Let’s Groove Tonight.” During the NDHM, PDCI won 2nd Runner-Up in the Slogan Making Contest. Thus, it was not a surprise that PDCI bagged the coveted Most Outstanding Chapter for NCR South and 1st Runner-Up in Most Outstanding President in NCR South.

In 2011-2012, Renior Amba, DDM, with the theme “Transition and Transformation at 21”. This term was in a transition Fiscal year, at the onset was a formidable task of funding, planning and implementing all PDA-Chapter Activities, Civic Outreaches and Scienti c Seminars for the long haul of eighteen months. The main vision was to be an organization supporting the professional growth of its members. The Chapter focused and innovated on Scientific Seminars with table clinic presentations being the venue for learning in the pursuit of professional excellence

thereby fulfilling the duty to promote numerous oral health programs in the community. The Chapter initiated the Standardization program for all members to follow. Expanded and strengthened our partners in oral care sponsors. Implemented the Transitional fund for the President Elects and initiated amendments of the Constitution and By-Laws. We also won 3 major awards at the PDA 103rd Annual Fellowship Night’s Infomercial Competition. With a

common agreed direction, great teamwork, unity and a fun working environment among officers and members were achieved in his term.

In 2013-2014, Marissa T. Alcantara Banta, DDM was the rst Public Health Dentist to become the President of the Paranaque Dental Chapter, Inc. and headed to the 22nd AGENDA of this organization with the theme “Professionalism, Dedication, Care, Incorporated.” She initiated the fun run fundraiser with the “teeth run” and was able to produce the seed money for the term. Her agship project, a legacy to Paranaque City, was the “Clean and Green Dental Clinic

Project” where innovations and improvements were made including the addition of plants in Public Dental Clinics. Through her leadership, as an experienced worker in the community co-equaled with her hardworking of cers and members, PDCI was awarded by the PDA the following: “Best Project Implementer in Community Based Project” and “Best Project Implementer in PDA Adopt A School Project.” The mission to care for PDCI members not only for their professional growth but through “Health and Wellness-Free Massage during Seminars,” “Calamity Assistance to PDA,” “Training of Dental Secretaries and Assistants” were also commended by PDA through the “Exemplary Achievement Award in Membership Assistance.” Presidential Award was also given to PDCI President Dr. Marissa Alcantara Banta by then PDA President Dr. Andy Fernandez.

In 2014-2015, Angel R. Dilig, DDM set-up new measures and phases to the ever-innovative practice of Dentistry. Themed 23-D "Building the Profession in a New Dimension," focused on updating members’ skills on the latest techniques and equipment, while encouraging members to get into sports for their well being as individuals. During the PDA National Bowling Tournament Championship, PDCI bagged the top awards namely: Champion Men’s Single

(Dr. Angel Dilig), 1st Runner-up Men’s Double (Dr. Angel Dilig and Dr. Cata Manuel), 2nd Runner-up Women’s Single (Dr. Dorothy Dilig). In Badminton, 2nd Runner-up award for Men’s Double (Dr. Angel Dilig and Dr. Cata Manuel). Dr. Angel Dilig was the "Best Dressed Male" in Zumba Fun On the Run and was "PDA Mr. Bollywood 2015" during the 11th NDHM. PDCI also won 2nd Place in the PDA Christmas Lantern Contest (Dr. Annrose Acla), and 2nd Runner-up in

PDA-NDHM "Love ako ni Teacher" Healthy Smiles Contest (represented by 7 year old Felicity Garcia). Team 23-D also initiated fundraising activities such as "Bowl for a Cause" and the Totally 80's Concert, to fund various dental missions and outreach projects. This year, Dr. Dilig worked on the exemption of Business and Mayor's permit for Paranaque Dental Clinics and was

granted by BPLO, where the practicing dentists paid only Regulatory fees. "Sports Clinics" were conducted every Dental Outreach activity for the members and the community. Outreach projects include "Adopt an Orphanage" (Bahay ARUGA), Adopt a School (Marcelo Green Elementary), "Urban Farming Livelihood Program," and "Aetas in Bataan Medical and Dental Outreach", PDCI participated in PDA projects such as "Bright Smile, Bright Future Ngiting

Maningning", "Ngiping Alaga ni Nanay mula Bunso hangang Panganay", Colgate Kabarangay, "Ngiti Mo, Sagot Ko" and all NDHM activities. This year marked a milestone for PDCI when it won the highest exemplary awards given by the PDA: Presidential Merit Award, Most Outstanding Chapter President and Most Outstanding Chapter
